Objective of the programme is to offer students the opportunity to become agents of change in the Development and Social Sector. The Program aims to equip a candidate with the knowledge of development practices, social processes and prepares them to work for the welfare and development of the society. The program emphasizes on the aspects necessary for humanitarian efforts in a society. Social Work is a domain which focuses on the disadvantaged and the weaker sections of a society and emphasizes on their upliftment. This diploma program aims to provide necessary insight and training to the candidates who can aid in carrying out social work for the welfare of citizens, animals, environment etc. The program envisions building a cadre of trained public leaders in the development and social sector capable of meeting socio-economic needs of the society and solving the complex socio-economic problems India faces in the 21st Century.

Program Structure

Course Details:

The curriculum of the program teaches different perspectives and diverse methods of Social Work which gives the students the requisite theoretical foundation and professional skills to indulge in Social Work and be an active change agent. The themes that shall be covered in the program are: Community Development, Human Rights, Disaster Management, Child Rights, Health/ Mental Health, Education, Environment, Sanitation, Sustainable Development, Humanitarian work, International organizations, Advocacy campaigns, Corporate Social Responsibility. Students can also take up optional field work with selected agencies during the course of the program. This gives them exposure to the functioning of social service organizations, familiarizes them with their future roles in the profession and teaches them to do field-based research projects and create research reports and presentations. Several online webinars and workshops delivered by experts in the field shall also form part of the diploma program benefiting students in their professional development.

Course Council:

The course has been conceptualized and designed under the leadership and mentorship of the stellar governing council with active support and cooperation from the Confederation of Indian Universities (CIU).

Program Delivery

The Program shall be completed over the course of 6 Months and divided into 4 papers. Each Paper is compulsory and submission shall be in form of an assignment. All papers shall have a predefined thematic area and subject specification which allow the students to track their learning progress throughout the duration of the program.

Students with one or more of the following qualifications shall be eligible to pursue the Diploma Programs from Indian Institute of Governance and Leadership (IIGL):

  • Students who have completed their 10+2.
  • Undergraduate Students pursuing any UG course from any university/deemed to be university/college/institute.
  • Post Graduate Students.
  • Working Professionals/Researchers.

Benefits:

The program shall prepare students to work as a social worker, counselor or therapist. The graduates of the program can also set up their own NGO. The program also opens up career options for students in the government and private organizations and interested students can also join international organizations such as UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP among other organizations. Students can also join and take up assignments of various Corporate Social Responsibility wings. The program combines problem solving, structural analysis, project development and management with a comprehensive theoretical and critical examination of the political, cultural, legal, and socioeconomic practices that make up our increasingly complex and interdependent society. Students shall not only develop quantitative and qualitative analytical skills but also receive an exposure to the real world societal development processes, and enhance their managerial skills.
